Professor Kayode Bodunrin Olurin Delivers 86th OOU Inaugural Lecture

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye will on Tuesday 19th March, 2019 hold its 86th Inaugural Lecture entitled “Dwindling Fish Production: Fisheries Research to the Rescue” at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye by 2.00pm.

The Lecture will be delivered by Professor Kayode Bodunrin Olurin, a Professor of Hydrobiology and Fisheries under the Chairmanship of the Vice- Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde. Professor Kayode Bodunrin Olurin was born in April 3rd, 1955 in Ibadan, Oyo State where he spent his early childhood. He attended King’s College, Lagos from January 1967 to December 1971 and then proceeded to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Zoology in 1977. Having finished his Youth Service Programme, he worked briefly at Ogun State Radio Corporation as a News Editor before proceeding to University of Jos, Jos where he obtained an M.Sc Degree (Hydrobiology and Fisheries) in 1981. He, thereafter obtained his Ph.D Degree from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan in 1994.

Professor-Kayode-Bodunrin-Olurin-inauguralThe Inaugural Lecturer joined t h e s e r v i c e s o f O l a b i s i Onabanjo University, Ago- Iwoye as an Assistant Lecturer in 1983. Through a dint of hard work, resilience and p e r s e v e r a n c e , h e r o s e t h r o u g h t h e r a n k s a n d became a Professor in 2013 specializing in Fish Biology, Fish Larval Nutrition, Fish Toxicology and Fish Breeding.

Professor Olurin has to his c r e d i t m o r e t h a n 4 0 publications in peer-reviewed Journals and Conference P r o c e e d i n g s . H e h a s p r e s e n t e d p a p e r s a t Conferences both locally and internationally and has also s u p e r v i s e d m a n y undergraduates projects and p o st g ra d u ate re s e a rc h d i s s e r t a t i o n s t o d a t e .
Professor Olurin was the Editor-in-Chief of Aquafield and a Reviewer for many scholarly academic journals. He has held a number of academic and administrative positions which include but not limited to: Acting Head, Department of Plant Science and Applied Zoology, Olabisi Onabanjo University (2013 – 2015) Head, Department of Forestry & Wildlife & Fisheries Olabisi Onabanjo University (2016 to date)

Professor Olurin is happily married with children. The Inaugural lecture is expected to be g ra c e d b y d i s t i n g u i s h e d s c h o l a rs , government functionaries, Royal Fathers, eminent personalities, staff and students.
