Professor Mohammed Afolabi Oladoja Delivers 87th OOU Inaugural Lecture

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye will on Tuesday 16th April, 2019 hold its 87th Inaugural Lecture entitled “POVERTY  AND PENURY IN PLENTY: THE AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AGENDA” at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye by 2.00p.m.

The Lecture will be delivered by Professor Mohammed Afolabi Oladoja, a Professor of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde.

Professor Oladoja was born in December 22nd, 1961 in Ibadan, Oyo State where he had his Primary and Secondary Education.  He later proceeded to the then Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, where he obtained his Bachelor of Agriculture with honours in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology in 1988. Immediately after the compulsory one year National Youth Service Programme which he had with Lagos State Agricultural Development Programme, Prof. Oladoja was given a permanent appointment in the same Agricultural Development Programme of the Lagos State Civil Service up till 2001. However, while in active service, the quest for scholastic achievement took Professor Oladoja to the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, where he obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees in 1994 and 2000 respectively with specialization in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development. It is also worthy of note that in spite of his academic background in natural sciences, Professor Oladoja distinguished himself by making an enviable in-road into the financial sector through the attainment of the highest award of Fellow of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Fellow, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

The Inaugural Lecturer, having bagged his Ph.D degree in 2000, joined the services of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye as a Lecturer II in 2001.  Through dint of hard work, resilience and perseverance, he rose through the ranks and became a Professor in 2013 specializing in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development. Apart from teaching various courses in his area of specialization, Prof Oladoja had equally taught courses in Statistics, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Management and Scaling Techniques, Auditing and Investment Appraisal, and Corporate Planning to students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. He has to his credit over 100 publications in peer-reviewed Journals locally and internationally, and has attended several professional Conferences. He has also successfully supervised several undergraduate students’ projects, many master degree dissertations and ten (10) doctorate degree theses.

Professor Oladoja is the current Director of General Nigerian Studies (GNS) and has held a number of academic and administrative positions which include but not limited to Head, Department of Agric. Extension and Rural Sociology, Sub-Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Senate Member (till date), Member, Senate Committee on Examination, Member, University Time-Table Committee,  Member, University Budget Monitoring and Project Sitting and Implementation Committee, Member, Constitution of Central Committee of Students Disciplinary Committee, Member University Research and Learned Conferences Committee. Professor Oladoja has served as an External Examiner to several Universities in Nigeria, as well as an examiner, assessor and reviewer of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) Examinations.

Professor Oladoja belongs to some notable professional bodies, such as: Member, Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON); Member, Nigeria Rural Sociological (NRSA); Member, Environment and Behaviour Association of Nigeria (EBAN), among Association others.

Professor Oladoja as part of his services to the Nation, has participated in several programmes towards ensuring national development such as Ogun State Agricultural Policy Review and Development of Youths’ Interest in Science, Technology and Agriculture. His contribution in the Development of Academic brief for establishment of new University is worthy of note. He was in fact the initiator, facilitator and member, Planning and Implementation Committee of Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State Nigeria.
Professor Oladoja is happily married with children.

The Inaugural lecture is expected to be graced by distinguished scholars, government functionaries, royal fathers, eminent personalities, staff and students.
