Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics)

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Olatundun Abosede Oderinde, was born in Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State. She began her higher studies at Times Journalism Institute, Lagos, where she obtained Diploma in Journalism in 1991.

Prof. Oderinde holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies with First Class (Honours) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations from the Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) in 1995 and 1998 respectively. In 2000, she proceeded to the University of Ibadan for her Master’s degree in Christian Theology and later to the Lagos State University, Ojo for her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in 2007.

Prof. Oderinde joined the services of the University on 2nd December, 1996 as a Graduate Assistant and with dint of hard work, dedication and commitment rose through the ranks to become a Professor of New Testament and Christian Theology on 1st October, 2020. She has over twenty-six (26) years of teaching and research experience in the University. She teaches various courses in New Testament Studies and Christian Theology both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels and has successfully supervised many undergraduate students’ projects, over sixty (60) Master’s dissertations and fifteen (15) Ph.D Theses.

Apart from teaching various courses in her area of specialization, Prof. Oderinde has to her credit over forty-nine (49) publications in peer-reviewed Journals at both national and international levels, and many contributions to books. Her research interest is centred on women in the New Testament and the role of the Church as an agent of positive change in the society. She has attended several professional Conferences, Workshops, and Seminars within and outside the country where she presented well-researched papers. She has also received many awards from within and outside the University.

Prior to her appointment as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, she served the University meritoriously in many capacities at various times. She was the Acting Head, Department of Religious Studies (2017-2019); Chairperson, Departmental Affiliation Committee (2007-2014); Business Manager, Departmental Editorial Board, Orisun: Journal of Religion and Human Values (2002-2014); Departmental Coordinator, Postgraduate programme (2014-2017), Congregation Representative in Senate (2017-2021) and Sub-Dean Postgraduate, Faculty of Arts, (2015-2017).

Prof. Oderinde was also Member, Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC) (2016-2019), Chairperson, Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC) (2019-2022); Chairperson, Faculty Accreditation Committee, Member, Faculty of Arts Projects Committee and Member, Governing Council (2022), among others.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, belongs to many national and international professional bodies, including National Association for the Promotion of Studies in Arts and Social Science (NAPSASS); National Association for the Study of Religions (NASR); Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians (CIRCLE); Nigerian Association of Biblical Studies, and Institute for Biblical Scholarship in Africa (IBSA) –West Africa. She is happily married and blessed with children.
