Faculty of Science holds one day Colloquium on Staff/Students relationship

The one-day colloquium on staff/students relationship organized by the Faculty of Science, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye was held on Tuesday, 17th April, 2018 at Lecture Theatre III, Main Campus.

In his address, the Dean, Faculty of Science – Professor Kola Odunaike welcomed the staff and students of the Faculty to the Colloquium which was the first of its kind in the Faculty.  He urged the students to pay rapt attention to the various presentations by invited resource persons so that they could ask appropriate questions as the colloquium progressed.

In her goodwill message, the Registrar of the University, Mrs. Omolara Adeyinka Osunsanya admonished the students to conduct themselves positively as they progressed in their studies in the University.  She urged them to do their registration on time and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the University.

The Faculty Officer, Mrs. O. A. Ilusanya who delivered the first paper highlighted the procedures for Registration of Students from the first Verification in the Academic Office to second Verification in the Faculty.  She listed the required documents which they must present during the registration exercise.

Speaking on the topic, “Registration Procedures for Fresh and Returning Students and Mode of Dressing”, She advised the students to shun indecent dressing on and off the campus.  Video excerpts of decent and indecent dressing were shown to the students to buttress her submission.

Professor A. O. Oyedeji, the Director, Academic Planning who spoke on the topic:  “Counseling to Students on Monitoring Teaching of Courses and Curriculum” admonished the students to attend lectures punctually because that was primarily the purpose for their being in school.

He urged them to always ask for the course contents/curriculum from their lecturers.  He implored them to be of good behaviour while in class and equally listen attentively to lectures that would be delivered by their lecturers.  Oyedeji enjoined them to monitor and assess the effectiveness of their lecturers and report their performances to the school authorities if the need arises.

Professor M. B. Ogunsanwo, a former Dean of the Faculty spoke on the topic:  “The Code of Conduct Among the Staff and Students”.  He urged students to always strive for academic integrity.  He admonished them to shun all forms of academic delinquencies like sex for marks approach. He further stressed that they should value the importance of core values of integrity, probity and decency in approach to their studies and relationship with their lecturers.

The immediate past Dean of the Faculty, Professor S. A. Bankole also spoke on “Recognizing Academic Excellence and Awards”. He called on the students to always strive after excellence in their studies and examinations noting that there is also a possibility and chance to reward them after their studies.

The Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) – Dr. T. A. Laniyan who spoke on the Topic:  “University Examinations, Grading, Processing and Release of Results – The University Position”, Professor O. O. Fafioye, Head of Department of Zoology and Environmental Sciences spoke on the topic:  “Eligibility for 400 Level Project Work and SIWES Programme”. Professor O. A. Lawal – Director, General Studies and Entrepreneurship spoke on the topic: “Entrepreneurship against tomorrow for Greater Heights”. Other Heads of Department also spoke on their departmental peculiarities.

The talks were interspersed with questions and answers session in which students were able to ask questions on every topic and grey areas of concern.
