The members of Governing Council Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye led by its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga paid a courtesy visit to their Royal Majesties Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba (Dr.) Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo on Wednesday, 18th July and Thursday, 19th July, 2018 respectively at their palaces in Sagamu and Abeokuta.

While receiving the members of the Governing Council at his palace in Abeokuta, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo praised the council members and the Management Staff for rebuilding the institution and inculcating moral values in the students.  He observed that though in the past, the students were restless and unruly, he was happy that they are now well behaved by shunning thuggery and other violent activities.  According to him, “I am very proud to be an alumnus of the University which is the best State University in Nigeria today”. Oba Aremu Gbadebo enjoined the Council and Management not to relent in their efforts in moving the university forward.

Thereafter, the Alake promised the council that he would increase the endowment fund for the best graduating student of the university from 1.1 million naira to 5 million naira because he was satisfied with the peaceful academic environment prevailing in the university.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde had thanked Alake for identifying with the University and for his support always. He stated that the University was full of appreciation to the royal father for his willingness to assist the University, even without being prompted to do so.

Thereafter, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga was also profusely grateful to the Kabiyesi for the enthusiastic reception given to the Council and Management in his palace.  She observed that the royal father received them the way he would “welcome his own children and indeed we are children of Kabiyesi”

Mrs. Belo-Olusoga, thereafter, thanked Oba Aremu Gbadebo for his advice to the University Management and informed Kabiyesi that the Council would from time to time solicit his guidance and advice in the running of the University.  She prayed that Kabiyesi’s reign would be peaceful and continue to witness social-cultural development not only for the people of Egba land, but also for the entire Yoruba race.

Similarly, the team was at the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Adewale Ajayi who also received the delegation warmly.  The Kabiyesi pledged that he would continue to muster support for the development of the University.  He also commended the Pro-Chancellor, Council members and Management for the wonderful work they were doing to develop the University and make it one of the best in the country.

Thereafter, a Remo Prince and distinguished scientist, Prof. Tunde Ogunsanwo gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the Kabiyesi and his Chiefs. Prof. Ogunsanwo prayed for a cordial relatioship between the University and Remoland. He also prayed that the University would continue to witness peace and stability. He wished both the Council and management a crisis- free tenure.

It would be recalled that the University Governing Council had paid a similar visit to the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona and the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul Razak  Adenugba earlier in the year.  The next visit of the Council to the royal fathers will take it to the palace of Olu of Ilaro and the Paramount Ruler of Yewa land, Oba (Dr.) Kehinde Adegbenle.
