The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde has stressed that the University Management would cooperate with the officers and men of the Federal Road Safety Corps to achieve its goal in obliterating carnage on our roads.
The Vice-Chancellor made this known while receiving the regular and special marshalls of the Federal Road Safety Corps Ago-Iwoye route who paid a courtesy visit to him in his office on Monday, 28th August, 2017.
He commended the marshals for the visit adding that efforts were ongoing with the government to convince her to complete the Ilishan – Ago-Iwoye route linking the University Main Campus with the outside world.
He charged the officers not to relent in their efforts in bringing sanity into the country’s roads particularly noting the Corps campaign against prevalent accidents most especially during the ember months period.
He commended the entourage for helping the University in its campaign against road accidents and for installing various traffic signposts like zebra crossing and other signs for motorists in the State to exercise extreme caution while driving on the highway.
He disclosed that his administration was intensifying efforts to landscape the University environment and enhance the beauty of the University. He added that as soon as his administration achieves its goals and objectives; attention would be paid to the linking roads within the Main Campus for beautification and signposts installations in order to improve traffic management.
Earlier in his submission, the route Commander and Officer in charge of Ago-Iwoye route, Mr. Clement Ekpenwuan thanked the Vice-Chancellor for creating time out of his busy schedule to receive the entourage warmly.
He said the visit was being embarked upon to solicit the support of the Acting Vice-Chancellor in the Corps activities within the University community and also to submit to the Acting Vice-Chancellor the 2016 annual reports on the Corps activities within the zone.
He promised that the Corps would assist the University in curbing the excesses and idiocyncracies of drivers within the campuses and its environs.
He further explained that the Corps had made issuance of drivers licence less cumbersome for motorists. He explained that renewal of drivers’ licence could be done by completing the necessary formalities on the website of the FRSC and thereafter capturing of the driver’s face and biometric would be done.
