Abeokuta Alumni Donate to Alma Mater

The Abeokuta Branch of Olabisi Onabanjo University Alumni Association on Monday, 6th May, 2019 once again fulfilled its annual gesture to the University. This year’s gesture, which came on the heel of the association’s N550,000.00 Endowment Fund for the Best Graduating Student in the University effective from 2018, was a donation of 25 sets of Industrial Ceiling Fans for Lecture Theatres and Offices. The donation was no doubt symbolic as it formed part of an avalanche of financial and material donations trooping in from alumni branches and chapters in Nigeria and the diaspora, including those of United Kingdom, North America, Australia, among others. This is part of the direct benefits of the Alumni relations policy of the current management of the University led by Prof. Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde.

Welcoming the team from the Abeokuta Branch in his Office, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde, who described them as one of the visible and vibrant branches of the Alumni Association, appreciated and acknowledged their past contributions, in terms of financial and material donations to the University. He re-emphasized that globally, the synergic relationship between alumni and their alma mater had significantly contributed positively to the development of the latter world-over, adding that as a mark of appreciation and recognition, the University would not relent in reciprocating the kind gesture from the ex-students. However, the University’s helmsman who re-stated his resolve in identifying with every individual or groups committed to the institutional advancement agenda of his administration implored every branch of the Alumni Association to place higher premium on unity among members by guarding jealously a common voice for the University Alumni through the National Alumni Association.

In his speech, the Chairman, Abeokuta branch of the OOU Alumni Association, Mr. Ebun Atinuke, whose last visit to the University coincided with the homecoming of the Financial Secretary of the UK Alumni, Mr. Lateef Adesona, expressed deep appreciation to the past management of the University since inception, not only for their achievements, but also for their sense of good leadership and commitment to excellence towards attaining a world-class status for the University. He particularly recalled how he was stunned to see an array of developmental projects completed and still under-construction during the recent tour of facilities of the Main Campus along with the management team and Mr. Lateef Adesona. While acknowledging the doggedness and the unparalleled records set by the present administration, especially in the area of zero tolerance for cultism, insecurity, indiscipline, indecent dressing, among others, Mr. Atinuke was full of praise for the Vice-Chancellor for his commitment towards ensuring peaceful co-existence among all branches of the OOU Alumni Association as always demonstrated by the Vice-Chancellor and his team at every forum with the Alumni. He specifically mentioned Professor Olatunji’s visit to the 2018 Easter Picnic of the Alumni body held in Lagos. He, thereafter, presented 25 sets of industrial ceiling fans to the university as part of their regular annual act of giving back to their alma mater.

In her contribution, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. (Mrs.) Ebun Oduwole reiterated the successes recorded so far in the alumni relations drive of the current Administration. She thanked the Chairman and members of the Abeokuta Branch of the Association for another round of their annual give-back to their alma mater. She briefed the gathering on the 2018 Endowment Fund from the Abeokuta branch, which she said had been kept in the dedicated Account of the Endowment Fund of the University for disbursement to deserving beneficiaries at the next convocation ceremony. She seized the opportunity to enjoin the branch to note, as a matter of necessity, the need to foster unity among all branches in the interest of the University as this would facilitate development through the donation and execution of iconic projects.

In his closing remark, the Vice-Chancellor charged the branch members to always access the University website for information relating to the University Alumni, especially, on the dedicated page of the University Bi-Monthly Bulletin. He thanked them for identifying with the University in no small measure. He re-assured them of his administration’s resolve to continue to put into good use all donations received on behalf of the University, while maintaining his management’s openness and transparent ideals in the running of the affairs of the University. Among other dignitaries at the event included the Registrar of the University, Mr. Femi Ogunwomoju, the University Bursar, Mr. Semiu Makinde and other University functionaries.
