On Tuesday, 23rd October, 2018, The Registrar of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Mr. Olufemi Ogunwomoju, who assumed office on 1st August, 2018, shared his vision and mission for the University, at a meeting organized with the Joint Action Committees (JAC), of the three non-teaching Unions of the University.
The Registrar who was being hosted by the three Unions expressed his desire to align his vision to be in line with those of the founding fathers of the University which is “to be a centre of academic excellence where knowledge, skills and values will be pursued relentlessly to ensure the flowering of humans abilities, service to the Nigerian nation and the world at large in the wider contexts of traditional wisdom and culture”. He highlighted his desire to serve as a team player in the current dispensation and be an effective coordinator in making the various Divisions, Units, Departments, Faculties, Colleges of Olabisi Onabanjo University succeed and excel in the core primary assignment of Teaching, Research and Service delivery.
According to the Registrar, his core objective was to partner with the University management to invest in robustly in human capacity development, curriculum re-engineering and sustainability and staff development. He promised to sustain academic, administrative and technical staff through various opportunities for training and retraining, while seeking for the provision of full welfare entitlements and benefits for all staff, to engender full motivation for optimal performance in the University.. He thereafter listed his main objectives to include the digitalization of the Registry and introduction of mail messaging to assist the other campuses of the University, creation of a technology based Transcripts Units that will enable online booking and processing of transcripts by students and graduates of the University, fostering of Institutional collaboration and partnering initiatives and exchange programmes thus engendering the attraction of international students and scholars and creating a Manpower Development and Training Unit in the Establishment Division to coordinate Courses, Workshops, Seminars and other training programmes for staff, among others.
On students matters, the Registrar promised to focus on enhancing and maintaining a culturally diverse and inclusive University community which enables student to air their views and be an important and integral part of the University while ensuring their well-being by providing adequate transport, health and other welfare activities including recreation. He reiterate his desire to ensure that Alumni activities are properly organized both home and abroad to further attract good gesture to the University and enhance its positive image.
He promised to conduct the day-to-day management of the University in an atmosphere of teamwork and team spirit while computer literacy and internet services would be a priority for both staff and students. that the Registrar disclosed that the he would achieve these set out objectives because of the synergy between his vision and that of the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde, who is digitally compliant and the management.
He concluded by saying that in order to achieve the robust plan he had enumerated, all hands must be on deck; hence, his meeting with members of staff in order to carry them along and also make them to share his vision of a University with excellent tradition, sound academic culture, right societal values, student’s worthiness in character and learning; also, a crop of dedicated and loyal staff.
Members of the three Unions thereafter interacted with the Registrar during a question and answer session that was dominated by frank thoughts and discussions. The OOU Bulletin, wishes the Registrar, a successful tenure in office.
