On Wednesday, 9th January, 2019, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde and other members of the Management team held an interactive session with the leadership of the Security agencies across Ijebu North Local Government and its environs, who have always been involved in supporting the University in maintaining law and order on the University campus as well as in the surrounding communities.
During the interactive session, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde expressed his appreciation to all the security agencies for their cooperation and support to the University since his assumption of office about two years ago. He submitted that over the years, the security situation has improved tremendously on the University campus as well as in Ago-Iwoye (host community) and that there was the need to sustain the trend. He expressed his determination to interact with the Security Chiefs regularly and collaborate with them to improve on the security architecture of the University and that of the surrounding communities.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde, thanked the men and officers of all the security agencies present at the interactive session for their efforts and cooperation with the Chief Security Officer of the University and the Students’ Union Government who regularly made distress calls to them in respect of some emergency security challenges that our students face from time to time and further commended the professional way at which tips and suggestions on security matters were being handled by them.
Thereafter, the Vice-Chancellor informed the security chiefs that in the year 2019, various efforts shall be made to sustain the peaceful atmosphere currently being witnessed in the University and that rules and regulations guiding students’ conducts on decent dressing and avoidance of hard drugs shall be firmly implemented. He also promised to enhance the students Counseling Services and put in place billboards with various inscriptions to counsel students on the dangers associated with the use of hard drugs, indecent dressing and involvement in other criminal acts. In addition, he informed that the University Management in collaboration with the private hostel developers had completed the erection of perimeter fence close to the students’ hostels at the Main campus, to further secure the hostels against any security infraction.
While giving the vote of thanks, the Chief Security Officer, Mr. R. Adekunle appreciated all the security agencies who were in attendance at the interactive session for their cooperation and support at ensuring that peace reigned on the University campus and the surrounding communities.
The meeting thereafter went into a closed door session to discuss and map out strategies that will further enhance adequate security in the University and the surrounding communities.
