URP Students Win 2019 World Planning Day Competition

The students of Urban and Regional Planning, Faculty of Environmental Studies,  Ibogun Campus, Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) have won the 2019 World Quiz Competition amongst several institutions offering Urban and Regional Planning ( URP) in Ogun State.

The competition, which was held on the World Town Planning Day (WTPD) Friday, 8th November, 2019 at the Secretariat of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, Abeokuta, Ogun – State saw the duo of Miss Oresanwo Ganiyat and Mr Osemete Oscar of the URP Department , OOU carting the awards and prizes for that day.

The WTPD also known as the International Organization for World Urbanism Day, is an international day set aside to celebrate the accomplishments of Town Planners and their contributions to their communities. On November 8, Town Planners around the world participate annually in  World Town Planning Day activities According to Dr. Wunmi Badiora, a lecturer in the Department of URP, OOU, this idea of celebrating the achievements of Town Planners world over, was founded in 1949 by late Professor Carlos Maria della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires, to further advance public and professional interest in town planning. It is a special day to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating livable communities. Dr. Badiora added that the World Urbanism Day presents an excellent opportunity to look at planning from a global perspective, an event which appeals to the conscience of citizens and public authorities in order to draw attention to the environmental impacts resulting from the development of cities and territories.

Other students that represented the University at the competition were Edun Michael, Adade Ernest, Agboba Opeyemi, Oyegoke Ifeoluwa,Owolabi Tobiloba,  Alonge Olateju, Abaru Salimon, Ishola Joshua, Azeez Afeez, Awolola Mark and Olaleye Adesola.
