The Registrar, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Dr. Bayo Orukotan, has emphasised the need for ethical behaviour among staff of the institution, urging them to adhere to extant rules and regulations so as to attain excellent job performance.
Dr. Orukotan gave the admonition at a training for all Registry staff organised by the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye Branch, on Friday 11thApril, 2025. The training with the theme, “Work Ethics and Corporate Disposition” took place at the Senate Chambers, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye.
In his presentation, Dr. Orukotan stressed that individuals with good work ethics are usually very productive and also work at a faster pace. He identified the fundamentals of work ethics for employees to include integrity, honesty, value, fairness and responsibility.
He said, “Ethics is a set of principles of right conduct or a system of moral value. It evaluates our customs, habits, or character and whether they are right or wrong or good or bad. It examines the moral standard of individual and society by asking questions that whether these standards are reasonable or unreasonable.”
“Thus, ethics is a field that involves the studies of human behaviour, in relation to what is expected of him or her by others and because we are interested in his or her work, it involves what is expected of him or her when performing his or her duties at work.”
Dr. Orukotan also delved into the issue of corporate disposition which he referred to as ‘’the shared beliefs, values and ethics of organisation as expressed through employees’ social interactions and the workplace in which they operate.” He, therefore, urged the trainees to put more efforts on any responsibilities assigned to them and also imbibe the spirit of integrity, honesty, openness, impartiality, respect for others, reliability, professionalism and dedication to their duties
The Registrar called on all officers in the University to always demonstrate diligence and meticulousness in the discharge of their duties. He equally urged them to cultivate outstanding record keeping skills, pursue personal development, embrace mentorship and familiarise themselves with the conditions of service. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Agboola, reaffirmed the University Management’s dedication to staff welfare, excellence and service delivery. He encouraged all staff to remain committed to their work, be diligent, productive, punctual and actively participate in the University activities. As part of his commitment to improved staff welfare, Prof. Agboola stated that he has prioritised regular payment of salaries and arrears as well as regular promotion of staff.
The Vice-Chancellor, who disclosed that conversion of non-teaching staff would soon be carried out in the institution, said the exercise will be done based on merit to fill vacant positions. He assured that an orientation manual would also be made available to all staff of the University to familiarise them with the workings of the institution.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Branch Chairman, Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), Mr. Adetayo Adekunmisi, applauded the University Management for approving the training programme. He noted that the training was organised to boost the capacity of the registry staff, urging them to remain focused and impactful in their roles in the university.
