Professor Rasaki Kolawole Odunaike Delivers 98th Inaugural Lecture

Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago-Iwoye, will on Tuesday, 12th October, 2021 hold its 98th Inaugural Lecture entitled “MY SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY INTO SOLID STATE PHYSICS FOR SUSTAINABILITY” at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD) Lecture Theatre, Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye by 2:00pm.

The lecture will be delivered by Professor Rasaki Kolawole Odunaike, a Professor of Solid State Physics under the Chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde.

Professor Rasaki Kolawole Odunaike was born in August 1st 1956 in Gusau, Zamfara State. He finished his elementary education at Wesley School, Iperu Remo in 1966 and secondary education at Remo Secondary School Sagamu, Ogun State in 1974. He later proceeded to the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree with Honours in Engineering Physics. Immediately after he did his one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in 1982 at the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi. Professor Odunaike was appointed a lecturer III at Oyo State College of Education Ila Orangun. His quest for further academic pursuit took him to the University of Ibadan, where he obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc) and Doctorate (Ph.D.) degrees in 1985 and 1993 respectively.

The Inaugural Lecturer joined the services of the then Ogun State University, (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Physics in 1985. Through dint of hard work, commitment and perseverance, he rose through the ranks to become a Professor in 2013. Odunaike had served the University meritoriously in different capacities. At various times, he served on several University Committees which includes; Acting Head, Department of Physics (1991-1993); Sub Dean, (undergraduate), Faculty of Science (1994-1997); Dean, Faculty of Science (2014-2018); Senate Representative on Research & Publication Committee (1994); Pioneer Chairman, University Security Committee (1996-1999).

He also served as Chairman Examination Malpractices Committee (1996-1997); Member, Ogun State University (OSU) Ventures (1997-1999); Member, Editorial Board of African Journal of Pure and Applied Science (2006-2013); Acting Dean, Directorate of Students’ Affairs (2009-2013); Member, Postgraduate School Management Board (2009-2013); Chairman, Senate Committee on Examination (2013 till date); Member, Business Committee of Senate (2007 till date) and currently the Director, Quality Assurance of the University.

Apart from teaching various courses in his area of specialization at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, Prof. Odunaike had successfully supervised several undergraduate students’ projects, Master’s degree dissertations, and Doctoral degree theses. He has to his credit over 70 publications in peer-reviewed journals locally and internationally and has attended several professional Conferences.

Professor Odunaike has also served as an External Examiner to several Universities in Nigeria and belongs to notable professional bodies and learned societies. He is a Fellow, Institute of Data Processing and Management Science (FIDMS), Fellow, Nigeria Institute of Physics (FNIP), and Member of, Science Association of Nigeria (SAN).
Professor Rasaki Kolawole Odunaike is happily married with Children.

The inaugural lecture is expected to be graced by distinguished scholars, government functionaries, Royal Fathers, eminent personalities, staff and students.
Expectedly, every attendee must wear face mask and comply with other Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) Protocol on Covid-19.
