Olabisi Onabanjo University will on Tuesday, 13th June 2017 hold its 75th Inaugural Lecture entitled “SURGERY OF THE HUMAN GUT: Restoring the Feed Mill of Life and Much More” at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Lecture Theatre, Main Campus by 2.00p.m.
The Lecture will be delivered by Professor AdedayoOluyomiTade, a Professor of Surgery under the distinguished Chairmanship of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor GaniyuOlatunjiOlatunde.
Born in Ilorin on the 14th December, 1950.He started his education career at the Nawarudeen Primary School in Iwo and completed his primary education at the Methodist Primary School in Eko-Tedo, Ibadan in 1961. He completed his Secondary School education at the Ibadan Grammar School between 1962 and 1966. He proceeded to Government College, Ibadan where he had his A’ Levels in 1967. Professor AdedayoOluyomiTade gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 1969 by direct entry to study Medicine, where he won a Federal Government of Nigeria Scholarship in 1970 and qualified as a medical doctor in 1974. He immediately moved to the United Kingdom under the Nigerian Government Scholarship for his Postgraduate Training where he was awarded a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in October, 1981. He also studied at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences London from 1979 to 1980.
Professor Adedayo Oluyomi Tade started his Professional career as a Physics Tutor at the Ibadan Grammar School in 1969. Between 1975/1976 Professor Tade worked as a youth corper/medical officer at Mary Slessor Hospital Itu in Cross Rivers State.
In his exemplary career, Professor Tade was at one time or the other a Medical Officer at the Ogun State Hospital Ilaro in 1976; Surgical Registrar and Consultant Surgeon at the Baptist Medical Centre Saki, Oyo State between 1978 and 1986; Medical House Officer at the University College Hospital Ibadan between 1974 and 1975; Surgical Registrar University College Hospital, 1976 to 1978.
Professor Adedayo OluyomiTade joined the services of Olabisi Onabanjo University formerly Ogun State University as Lecturer I, Consultant in Surgery in 1986.He became a Pioneer Head of Surgery at the Olabisi Onabanjo Univeristy, Faculty of Medicine where he was promoted a Professor of Surgery in the course of his career in the University in October, 2013. Professor Tade had worked in so many capacities within the University. He had been an Acting Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, Chairman, Faculty Curriculum and Development and Review Committee. He was an External Examiner in Surgery at the College of Medicine University of Ibadan, External Examiner in Surgery at the University of Lagos and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Osogbo. He had also served as the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital from 1998-2002.
To his credit, he was a one- time Chairman Minor Works Committee, member, Finance and General Purposes Committee and Appointments and Promotion Committee at the OOUTH Sagamu Ogun State, Chairman, Ethics Review Committee, and the Chairman, Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria OOUTH Sagamu Chapter in 1998.
Professor Oluyomi Tade bagged so many awards in his specialization and field of Surgery among the various awards are: Royal College of Surgeons, award for Gastrointestinal Endoscopies in 1984 and another one in laparoscopic surgery. He is a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, an honorary award he bagged in 1989. In 1988, he received a letter of commendation from the University Senate for outstanding Professional prowess. He is a medical practitioner with full registration with Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Many residents in Surgical and non-Surgical specialties had been trained by him.
Professor Tade has several publications in national and international Peer Review Journals. His articles cover areas within and outside his area of interest which is gastrointestinal surgery. In particular, he is interested in designing surgical procedures that exclude the use of Mesh in surgical operations. In actual fact, in 2012, he published a surgical technique for the treatment of rectal prolapse without the use of Mesh, the first discoverer of such technique in the world.
Tade is happily married with children and grandchildren. He loves playing lawn tennis and chess. The Inaugural Lecture is expected to be graced by distinguished scholars, government functionaries, eminent personalities, and well-meaning Nigerians from all walks of life.
