New SUG for OOU Students

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde has reiterated his desire and commitment to run an accessible and open administration with the newly elected Students Union leaders of the University.

THE VICE CHANCELLOR PROF. OLATUNJI OLATUNDE ADDRESSING THE NEW SUG GOVERNMENT

The Vice-Chancellor made this remark during the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected Students’ Union leaders on Monday, 6th November, 2018 which took place in his office.

He said that the door of his office was very open to meet the needs of the Students’ Union adding that his administration believed in strong interaction with the students’ leaders in order to strengthen the existing peace in the University.

Professor Olatunde informed the newly sworn-in executives that the University Management had improved on the security surveillance in the University with the provision of CCTV in all nooks and crannies of the campus.  He also added that well trained security personnel had been recruited to beef up the security on the campus.  On health, the Vice-Chancellor revealed that necessary medical equipment and drugs had been purchased to ensure that students and staff have access to good health care.

THE NEW SUG GOVERNMENT IN PIX WITH THE SCHOOL MANAGEMENT

The Vice-Chancellor implored the students to always bring to his attention or the Dean of Students Affairs’ attention any challenge or problems they think requires immediate response.  He promised that he would not hesitate to address such issues in order to maintain peace on the campus.

He pledged his commitment and dedication to the welfare of the students adding that he would personally give the Students Union leaders his personal phone number for contacts and discussion on any sensitive issues concerning the entire students of the University in order to forestall any ugly situation.

Professor Olatunde said that he and the students’ leaders must be partners and stakeholders in the development of the University.  He highlighted some of his administration aspirations of which he said include,  ensuring the full accreditation of courses by the National University Commission, establishing and maintaining an  academic vibrant website for positive international ranking  in order for the University to be rated as one of the best if not the best in the country, putting in place adequate facilities and infrastructure for the use of students, developing an entrepreneur spirit for the University by training  students to develop their vocational skills and funding such skills.

He further promised that under his administration, entrepreneurial drive for the students of the University would be programmed to make the students not dependent on white collar jobs after graduation.

In his response, the President of the Students’ Union government, Mr. Adeosun Williams pledged his loyalty to the Vice-Chancellor for showing special interest in the new Students’ Union government.  He promised to work hand in hand with the Vice-Chancellor and the Management for the peaceful development of the University and to take the University to his rightful place among the comity of Universities in Nigeria.

The Inauguration climaxed with oath taking by the Students Union executives duly administered by the Vice-Chancellor.
