Group Donates Books to University Library … hails management an international

Organization under the aegis of Goodwill Association of Nigeria (GAN), on Wednesday, February 4, 2021, donated copies of different set of books to the University Library. The group, which is made up of prominent personalities across the globe, was also full of praises to the University Management for the beautiful environment to behold right from the main entrance of the institution.

Receiving the donation at the Main Campus of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde, who was represented by the University Librarian, Dr. Adebambo Oduwole, expressed his satisfaction over the selfless and humanitarian gesture of the distinguished men and women for the promotion of education and moral upbringing of the Nigerian youths whom he described as the potential leaders of the country. This patriotic service according to the University helmsman would not only fortify the reading culture of the youth but would also keep them away from the social vices plaguing the global society.

Earlier in her speech, the representative of the GAN in the Southern part of the country, who incidentally is the Registrar, Edo University, Iyamoh, Edo State, Dr. (Mrs) Isoken Ogboro, FNIM, disclosed that Olabisi Onabanjo University was chosen as a beneficiary of the GAN’s mandate being one of the internationally recognised older Nigerian Universities making waves in the academic world. This, according to her, she witnessed in the beautiful and serene environment laced with physical infrastructure required for serious teaching and learning in a standard University setting.

Speaking further, Dr. (Mrs) Ogboro revealed that the Goodwill Association of Nigeria is an educational charity organisation which believes in impartation and contribution to knowledge, especially, among the youths at early stages of their lives. She said this informed their decision to donate several copies of books covering a wide range of topics in various fields of human endeavours including science, education, humanities, social sciences among others.

In her words, “Goodwill Association of Nigeria as the name implies stands for selflessness in knowledge impartation with the belief that the moral, technological and spiritual needs of the society could be achieved globally when you catch them young at the critical stage of their lives.”

“Consequently, it is the group desire to help to develop an informed and enlightened society through readership of books of different disciplines. Our desires have, therefore, informed our decision to donate these books that covers a wide range of topics in various fields of human endeavours such as science, education, social sciences, esoteric philosophy, psychology etc.”

“We are therefore, not disappointed as our choice of OOU, Ago-Iwoye was done on merit. In fact, I must say that I have a lot to take home that we can borrow a leaf from. For instance, the structural aesthetic of this mighty University Library built by TETFund was a structure to behold. We would equally initiate a process at our University to ensure that we are able to convince TETFund to fund a similar project if not a better University Central Library for the use of our students since our institution is the second state University owned by the government of Edo State,” she concluded.
