He acknowledged that they were busy people with tight daily schedules, nevertheless the Governor said that he had strong faith on the account of their successes in their various fields and businesses, they were bound to improve the current status of the University.
The Governor informed the new Council that the state could not afford to see the University go back to its past when salaries were unpaid, convocation was not done, results were not released and cultists were on rampage. However, he was happy that all these were reversed with the appointment of Prof. Saburi Adesanya who performed creditably in the last five years. Amosun therefore, advised the Council members to further step up the standard in order to meet the lofty goals and ideals of a modern University. He promised that he would not interfere with the running of the University but cautioned the members that there were challenges ahead and they should be prepared to make the sacrifice.
Responding, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council Mrs Mosun Belo-Olusoga thanked His Execellency for considering them worthy to be appointed into the Council of the University. She promised that the Council would do its best to elevate the present status of the University. She added that the Council would not let the Governor and indeed the state down.
Thereafter, His Excellency took a group photograph with all the Council members and the Council hit the ground running by holding its inaugural meeting at the Governor’s office.
