The Board of Trustees, Nigerian Society for Plant Protection (NSPP) has applauded the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde and his Management team for the feats recorded since his assumption of duty. The commendation was given on Thursday, 7th February, 2019 when the Trustee members led by its Chairman, Prof. David B. Olufolaji of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and its Secretary, Prof. Jonathan Atungwu of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at the Main Campus of the University in Ago-Iwoye.
The Board, which was received by the Vice-Chancellor and other Management Team had in attendance the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof Deji Agboola, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ebun Oduwole, the Registrar, Mr. Femi Ogunwomoju, the University Librarian, Dr. Adebambo Oduwole and the University Bursar, Mr. Semiu Makinde.
Speaking on the essence of their courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, the Chairman of the Board, Prof. Olufolaji stated that the laudable achievements of the Vice-Chancellor within the space of time of assuming office did not only spurred them to identify with him as a Fellow of the Society, but to also motivate and encourage him for greater achievements and excellence. According to the Chairman, the feats achieved by the Vice-Chancellor did not come as a surprise, as it had been a distinguishing feature and enviable hallmark of members of the noble Society in their various callings. Prof. Olufolaji however, reiterated the moral need to give the University’s helmsman a pat on the back for the commitment displayed in raising the University to a world class standard.
Speaking further, the Chairman delivered a goodwill message on behalf of other members of the Board of Trustees who were unavoidably absent. He, thereafter, presented a portrait to the Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Board in recognition of his laudable achievements as a fellow and a good ambassador of the Society.
In his submission, the Secretary, Board of Trustee of the Nigerian Society for Plant Protection, Professor Jonathan Atungwu described the Vice-Chancellor as a great teacher, who he said taught and mentored him at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He thereafter expressed his excitement at the level of infrastructural development seen during their tour of the Campus. This he attributed to the sterling leadership qualities of the Vice-Chancellor on the one hand, and to the visible good relationship existing among the Vice-Chancellor, his management team and other members of staff of the University, on the other. He thereafter re-assured that the Society would continue to monitor the progress of the Vice-Chancellor as he steers the ship of the University to an enviable height. Prof Atungwu later announced the presentation of some journals on crop protection for the University Library which according to him would give the necessary awareness among staff and students about the importance of taking care of crop in order to enhance good health for both human beings and animals.
While responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde expressed his appreciation for the honour bestowed on him by the Board of Trustees, Nigerian Society for Plant Protection. He urther gave a brief on the evolution of the University and revealed that one of his key focus since his assumption of office was to have a serene and secured environment as attested to in the aesthetics and facelift of the University infrastructure. He also mentioned the robust academic activities going on in the University as evident in the smooth running of the school Calendar. He disclosed that the management was leaving no stone unturned towards ensuring that, come next Webometric ranking, the University would have moved up to between 1st – 9th position. Professor Olatunde added that the Management would not cease to do its best for the University to continue to soar higher in achieving the vision of the founding fathers.
While appreciating the Board of Trustees on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ganiyu Olatunji Olatunde, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Ebun Oduwole, thanked the visiting team for their show of honour towards the Vice-Chancellor. She thereafter presented the Trustees with some University souvenirs.
