Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye is set to commence the activities marking its 34thConvocation Ceremonies for the 2023/2024 Academic Session.
The Convocation Ceremonies, scheduled to take place from Thursday, 23rd to Friday, 31stJanuary, 2025 at the Main Campus, Ago-Iwoye, will feature series of events to be chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola. On Thursday, 23rd January, the activities will formally begin with a Press Conference at the University Senate Chamber at 11.00am.
As part of the programmes lined up, a Health Walk for Staff and Students will hold on Friday, 24th January at the Main Campus which will be followed by an Agriculture and Engineering Show and later, a Special Jumat Service. On Sunday, 26th January, aConvocation Service will take place at the Chapel of Abundant Life, Main Campus by 10.00am while there will be a Convocation Play and Novelty Match on Monday, 27thJanuary and Tuesday, 28th January respectively.
The University will on Wednesday, 29th January award Bachelor Degrees to graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Social Sciences. The Convocation train will, on Thursday, 30th January, confer degree awards on graduands from the Faculties of Administration and Management Sciences, Agricultural Management and Rural Development, Agricultural Production and Renewable Resources, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies and Science.
The high point and grand finale of the Convocation Ceremonies will come up on Friday, 31st January by 10.00am with the conferment of Postgraduate Degrees and Award of Prizes as well as the conferment of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science on a globally acclaimed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and the Chief Medical Director, Eye Foundation Hospital Group, Dr. Adekunle Olubola Hassan. On same day, the Convocation Lecture entitled, “TETFund and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, the Treasures and Future” will be delivered by the Acting Executive Secretary, TETFund, Arch. Sunday Echono.
For the record, a total number of 6,066 graduands, including regular students as well as those from the Centre for Continuing Education programmes will convoke. The breakdown shows that there are 114 graduands that earned First Class; a total number of 1,848 in Second Class Upper Division; 3,092 in Second Class Lower Division while 707 others obtained Third Class. A total of 33 graduands had pass degree.
The Visitor to the University and Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON, who will commission some projects at the Main Campus, will also be the Special Guest of Honour at this occasion which is expected to attract distinguished academics, government functionaries, captains of industry and eminent Nigerians from all walks of life.
The University Community and members of the public are hereby invited to participate in the ceremonies.
